Golf team swings into action

Jonathan McNabb, Charger Staff

The men’s golf team is gearing up for a great 2005 season. Led by seniors Jared Dunn, Phillip Judd, Tyler Richardson, Caleb Reese, and Grayson Bernard, the Cavaliers hope to capture a state title. The team is not short on players this year.

The 20-person team is one of the largest rosters in the state, but head coach Sam Brooks and assistant coach Paul Ballard believe that introducing more younger players will improve the team in the future.

"With the five seniors we will have a good core leadership," says Jared Dunn.

With the talent and depth on the team this year, both coaches are optimistic about their team's chances at the district, region, and state titles.

The Cavaliers started their season well with a win at the Murfreesboro Invitation on Aug. 2 and third place finish at the Stan McNabb Classic on Aug. 9.

The women's golf team is lead by senior Dayla Stewart, one of the best players in the state last year. She is joined by returning players Julie Longhurst, Lauren Jones, and Candace Russell as well as freshmen Linzi Robinson and Brittany Fletcher.

"The Lady Cavs Golf team hopes to tee 'em high and let 'em fly...REPRESENT!" said Julie Longhurst.

The obstacle for the team this year is to find a player to complement Stewart. the women's team is coached by head coach Kevin Bray and assistant coach Bob Cumby.
