Shark Tale: a reason to go back into the water

The latest Dreamworks movie, Shark Tale hit theaters on Oct. 1. It opened as the top weekend movie. The movie grossed $49.1 million at the box office its first weekend. Shark Tale broke the record for best October debut.

Shark Tale was directed by Vicky Jenson who also directed Shrek, Bibo Bergeron, and Rob Letterman. It has a great and familiar cast consisting of Will Smith (Oscar), Robert De Niro (Don Lino), Jack Black (Lenny), Angelina Jolie (Lola), and Reneé Zellweger (Angie).

Oscar is a fish in a small town who dreams of making it big someday. He works at a car wash in his town, and he always seems to get himself into trouble. He shows up late to work and owes money which he cannot pay. Fame and fortune seem very far away for Oscar. His best friend, Angie, helps him get out of trouble most of the time. Deep down, Angie really has feelings for Oscar but does not know how to express them.

Just when the ‘good life’ seems out of reach for Oscar, his luck changes. He stumbles upon a shark, Lenny, who is different from normal shark; he does not eat meat! Lenny’s family is ashamed of him, so he decides to run away. Lenny and Oscar meet and come up with what they think is a great plan.

They decide to tell a little white lie. They put on a show for the entire town, making it look like Oscar kills Lenny to protect the other fish in the town.

Oscar becomes well known around the town as the ‘shark slayer.’ He finally gets his dream of being big and famous.
However, fame and fortune distract and overwhelm Oscar. It is not like he thought it would be. He starts treating Angie badly and does not realize how he is changing.

Shark Tale is a comedy, family, and animation movie. The actors fit their rolls well. Rated PG, it is a great movie full of fun and laughs.
