Don’t judge by looks

Alison Palmer, Charger Staff

What do you think when you pass certain people in the hallway? Skank? Prep? Nerd? Goth? Without ever meeting them, people automatically put labels on others, and this isn’t very likely to change.

People are defined by how they dress, who they hang out with , and what they do for fun.

I know several people who have been put in a category that has upset them and made them want to change themselves.
People should be comfortable with who they are and not worry about whether people like them or not. Chances are that no matter where you go, you will find someone who does not accept you. You’re not going to like everyone you meet so you shouldn’t expect everyone to like you either.

On the other hand, people should also be more open-minded. They should not judge people and label them before they get to know them.

After you have talked with someone, gotten to know a little bit about them and you still think that they’re a jerk, freak, or whatever than thats ok. You at least gave them a chance.

Some personalities just aren’t compatable, and so not everyone is going to get along. Just because you don’t like someone doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t treat them with respect and courtesy.

An almost bigger problem that I have observed is how very few people actually accept themselves.
Be aware of what you like, have your own opinions and don’t be afraid to go against the crowd to stand up for something you believe in.

If people would just accept themselves then they wouldn’t be so worried about fitting in. Be comfortable with who you are and treat everybody with respect. Concentrate on the more important things in life. You’ll be happier and healthier in the long run.
