RUSH, without a doubt, is one of the leading bands in progressive rock. They
are a three piece Canadian super band that has been around for more than two
decades. Their first major album was released and since then, they have recorded
a breathtaking total of 24 albums and 3 videos. They have been instrumental
in the making of such progressive rock sounds such as Tool. Their music has
affected the music of hundreds of thousands of musicians. RUSH by far is the
best thing that Canada has ever produced.
The three members of the band, Geddy Lee (bass, vocals, synthesizers), Alex Lifeson (electric/acoustic guitars), and Neil Pert (drums and percussion) are all renowned virtuosos of their instruments. The band has a one-of-a-kind progressive rock sound. The play everything from sweet Dorian guitar riffs to complex rock arrangements that would blow away great bands such as Metallica.
The technical finesse that Rush has achieved is almost beyond comparison. While
Geddy Lee is singing soprano-like vocals and playing bass lines that would make
Victor Wooten sweat, Neil Pert is switching effortlessly from 8:5 to 3:4 time.
Not to mention Alex Lifeson is playing some of the most complicated guitar parts
ever recorded.
The musical precsence of Rush is so phenomenal that often it seem s as if there
is a fourth even a fifth person in the band. There is so much to say about this
band that words cannot describe. Sometimes you just have to sit back, relax
and just breath in their music. Whatever mood you are in, ther e is always something
that the band has to offer. As one music fan put it, if music is the soudtrack
of our lives, then Rush is my composer.
If you are interested in a good musical introduction to Rush, I suggest that you check out the Rush Chronicles album, or just get on the internet and check them out through Morpheus or Audiogalaxy.
