Cookeville High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools and is a member of the Putnam County School system. CHS is the largest
non-metropolitan school in the state and is one of only five schools in Tennessee
to offer the International Baccalaureate program. The other four Tennessee schools
with the IB program are all in Nashville. The overall academic program at Cookeville
High School is based on a six period schedule, which includes courses in Core
College preparatory, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, on-line
Advanced Placement, technical education, elective areas, and dual credit (high
school and university). Honors level courses are offered in the core curriculum
areas of English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Foreign Language. The wide
variety of course offerings allows all students to complete state-mandated core
graduation requirements for either the university, technical or dual high school
diploma.
The student
is the center of all we do at CHS. From our variety of academic programs to
athletics and other co-curricular and extra curricular activities, everything
is designed to meet diverse student needs. Cookeville High School’s Fine
Arts program is highly acclaimed. We also boasts one of the finest athletic
programs in the state and we have more than 30 clubs and student organizations.
All of this to say, that Cookeville High School offers a comprehensive program
of studies designed to meet the needs of all students with an emphasis on academic
excellence. In short, Cookeville High School strives to live the school mission
statement which reads: “The mission of Cookeville High School is to create
life-long learners and worthy citizens through quality instruction in a safe
learning environment.”
